The band was formed at the start of 2005 by a group of long time friends

We play authentic garage/psych with touches of folk rock - the sound is a blend of west coast byrdsy jangle and harder edged Texas punk!!

Our influences, amongst others, range from THE BYRDS, LOVE, THE WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND, THE 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, THE ELECTRIC PRUNES, THE GOLDEN DAWN, THE ZAKARY THAKS, THE REMAINS, THE MYSTIC TIDE, THE KINGS VERSES and all the thousands of great garage band 45's out there!!

THE HIGHER STATE uses Epiphone, Farfisa, Fender, Harmony, Premier and Rickenbacker instruments; and endorses the Gibson Maestro Fuzztone pedal.

The album 'FROM 'ROUND HERE' is out now on the Misty Lane/Teen Sound label based in Italy

THE HIGHER STATE 'logo' badges are now available from us - email for details and for any other information: endangered_sounds@hotmail.com

“I am George Kinney, founder of the Texas Psych rock band, The Golden Dawn. Marty from the THE HIGHER STATE sent me a copy of some soon to be released material from his band and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. Honestly, this is the first stuff I have heard in many years that captures the raw, honest energy of the early Texas garage band sound. The lyrics are terrific and the music has that authentic sound that is so often lacking in many of the modern bands who try to emulate the early Texas rock sound. These guys have it. The vocals are right on the mark and the instrumentation is just right for the sound. Give these guys a good listen, they are the real thing.” George Kinney

“I was truly impressed when I listened to your recordings...it was like I had stepped back in time to the true, vintage '60's sound, but even better; without being over-processed, sampled, or contrived...nice job guys...you got it right! Keep up the great work...” Rex Gregory, bass, Zakary Thaks

“When I listen to your tunes it feels like that short space in time the 60's and 70's that had that spirit of freedom to just play and try all kinds of ideas and the fans would back you up. It was a great time for music then and now once again it's TIME . And I'm glad you guys are there and solid !! way to go !!” John Lopez, lead guitar, Zakary Thaks

“Authentic with a capital A - and with an uncanny attention to detail, THE HIGHER STATE appear to have 'cracked the code' on what this genre of music is all about. Their song writing skills are certainly top drawer with a tangible smooth flow rarely heard these days. Well done lads!” Chris Gernoittis, lead singer, Zakary Thaks

“WOW!! Really great stuff, and yes it does sound authentic in the 60s style. This is not important, as the main thing is - the songs, sound and playing are all killer. I haven't bought a new CD for several years, as I'm so involved with the 60s research/collecting scene - but yours is now on my shopping list, and I'm really pleased to know that there's at least one band out there who has managed to capture a ton of excitement like the great bands from the original garage era 1965-70.” Mark Taylor, G45 legends / Fine Recording Studio Website and renowned garage band collector
